about EMMA

Emma is a self-taught, contemporary artist based in Northern California. Her creative practice spans many skillsets and interests, including drawing, watercolor, fiber arts, and paper crafts, with oil painting as her primary professional focus.

Her work features vibrant colors, somber figures, and often presents an exploration of polysemy, the concept multiple meanings or interpretations layered into a single piece. Old school meets new school with a slew of techniques learned through studying the old masters and a constant explorative practice. EMMA builds texture and depth with layers of paint, mediums, gold leaf, and image transfers of her own photography.

Pop art, graffiti, punk subculture and feminist ideology are all major sources of inspiration that play heavily in the themes of her work. Her most recent collection, “Street Writer” is a series of graffiti pieces worked over gel prints and layered with gold leaf. These pieces turn random words into revered slogans simply by presenting them in an unexpected way.

EMMA is currently working on a large-scale project focused on dramatic angles, birds-eye perspective, and human story telling. The first piece in this collection was inspired by her work on “Feeling the Blues” in 2025 is set to be completed in 2027.

Her painting, “Feeling the Blues” was commissioned by Leonard Wine Company and is permanently installed in their events space. Her work is held private collections, showcased in pop up exhibitions around Napa Valley, and featured in her upcoming showcase, Unbound, at Jessup Cellars.
